Throttle vs Pedal Assist: How the Models in This Range Differ

Some bikes here have no throttle at all, some add a thumb throttle to pedal assist, and the sensor behind the assist — torque or cadence — changes the ride. A model-by-model guide from the catalogue itself.

Pedal assist (PAS) means the motor works only while you pedal; a throttle lets the motor drive the bike without pedaling. Which format a model uses is a product decision with regulatory consequences, and in this catalogue it is decided per model — so this guide works from the published data rather than generalities.

No-Throttle Models

The published data lists no throttle for: the city line's C1 and C4, the carbon EC2, the rear-hub C3; the folders F11, F7, F8, F2 and F4; the road models M13, M16, M16A, M8, M13-Belt and M7; the fat folder B1; the mountain M2 and M6A; and the cargo C18. These are pedal-assist-only bikes — the cleanest format for markets that restrict throttles, and the format most fleet buyers standardize on.

Throttle-Equipped Models

A thumb or twist throttle appears on many fat tire models (the E18-A has a thumb throttle; the B16 a twist throttle), the mid-drive C3 and F7, the F2 Basket, and across much of the 48V range. On these models the throttle supplements pedal assist rather than replacing it. If your market permits a throttle only as a walk-assist or not at all, say so in the inquiry — the configuration offered will be specified accordingly.

The Sensor Behind the Assist

Torque sensing (E18-A, B11, E23, M10, EC2, EC3-NEW, M3 among others) measures how hard you pedal and meters power proportionally — the most bicycle-like feel, and the premium option. Cadence sensing (the 12-magnet systems on the B1 and M8, the C18) switches assistance by pedal rotation — simpler and entirely satisfactory for city and utility riding. Several models publish dual torque + speed or torque + cadence sensing. The detailed comparison is in the torque vs cadence sensor guide.

What to Specify in an Order

State three things: whether a throttle is wanted, permitted or prohibited in your market; the assist sensor preference if your retail positioning depends on ride feel; and the speed configuration. Each is a per-model confirmation in the quotation, because the same model name can cover different builds (the two C3s differ exactly here).

Questions Buyers Ask

Can a throttle be removed or disabled for my market?

Configuration is confirmed per model at quotation. If your market prohibits throttles, anchor the program on the no-throttle models listed above.

Can I order samples first?

Yes — under the factory's published sample policy, spare units can be provided for sampling; the sample fee and courier cost are paid by the buyer. Confirm availability for the models you want when you inquire.

How long does production take?

The published lead time is 30–60 days after the advance payment is received, depending on the product category and order quantity. Ask us to confirm the schedule for the exact models in your inquiry.

What certificates do the products carry?

Certificates available upon request. Send your target market in the inquiry and we will confirm which documentation can be provided for the models you are sourcing.
